A Prayer of Blessing for Emergency Workers
Blessed are you, Lord, God of mercy, who through
your Son gave us a marvelous example of charity
and the great commandment of love for one another.
Send down your blessings on these your servants,
who so generously devote themselves to helping
others. Grant them courage when they are afraid,
wisdom when they must make quick decisions,
strength when they are weary, and compassion in
all their work. When the alarm sounds and they are
called to aid both friend and stranger, let them
faithfully serve you in their neighbour. We ask this
through Christ our Lord.

The Firefighter Prayer
We have the task of helping those in trouble and danger,
of saving life and property. Help us to do our job well,
to do it with pride and dedication, for sometimes we risk
our lives. When we think of the dangers and we remember
those who gave their lives in facing them, help us to remember
what Jesus said: ‘There is no greater love than to lay down
one’s life for one’s friends.’ We are grateful for the strength,
support, and encouragement we find in our colleagues,
And give thanks for our loved ones who support us through
it all. May we know help, strength and protection as we seek
to serve one another and the community.
